Putting Life & Death In Context!

Published on: 19th January, 2024

The reason for this conversation is to allow us to reflect on our new year resolutions and the pace with which we set things in motion without a moment’s consideration that this life we live is impermanent. If we were mindful of this point, it should allow us a space or place where we are fully present, living moment by moment. Being fully present alleviates anxiety and worry. After all, we experience miracles living in the now, in the present moment. Living in the past and future often heighten our worries and anxieties and we constantly play old and unrealized events in our minds, often inhibiting our creativity.

We must bring into our awareness that there is always an ebb and flow in our life experiences. There is always movement. When you say “my death is certain,” you are acknowledging that every single thing in this world comes into existence, stays for a while, and then dissipates again. No one is exempt from this natural order of things.

As you contemplate this, and say to yourself, “the time of my death is uncertain,” you acknowledge that you cannot know the future. Anything can happen at any moment. Our lives are so fragile, and precious as if with a flash of lightning, this one life could end at any moment. Generate a deep deep gratitude for the fact that you are here. So rejoice for this opportunity, this one breath.

Recall that no matter how many friends you have, no matter how many people love you, no matter the family gathered around, when it’s time, we will leave this world on our own. Also recall that no matter how many things you have accumulated no matter how much money you have in the bank, no matter how much you’ve surrounded yourself with the comforts of this world, none of it can go with you, when it’s time for you to leave this world. The only thing that can help you in that moment will be your stability of mind. Plan accordingly.

Many blessings!
